Yes we, :iconagina: and :icontankero: decided to hold out that contest of ours. : D It's about the comic Kenelle liljat kukkivat? (= To Whom The Lilies Bloom?) -> [link]

ABOUT THE CONTEST:
- Deadline is 1.3.2010 (1. March), 12:00 am Finnish time.
- We accept digital, traditional and literature. NO PHOTOMANIPULATIONS, NO PHOTOGRAPHY!
- 4 works max./one person (one work is enough, but one can make 4 if that one happens to make a short minicomic as an entry etc.)
- There are 3 prize sections + the 4th honourable mention place, that is decided by a poll vote. Otherwise I, *Agina, and *Tankero will be the judges.
- YOU CAN DONATE MORE PRIZES TO THE CONTEST AND YOU CAN STILL ENTER!
- Send A DA NOTE to *Agina or to *Tankero when you have done your entry. Title the note as Entry and include in it the link to your work or a thumbnail! Helps us a lot and none of the entries will be left unnoticed.

THE PRIZES:

1st place:
- Kenelle liljat kukkivat? - comic, first edition (most likely it's the magazine one, but the winner can choose will it be in English or Finnish)

- 1 sketch from *Tankero (won't be sent)

The poll voting 4th place:
- 1 month journal feature *Agina
- 1 month journal feature *Tankero

RULES:
- Depending on the section you're entering (literature or digital/traditonal art) the rules are a little different - naturally - so read them through carefully.

Digital/Traditional:
- max. 4 entries/one person.
- You can be just as bloody and just as mature with the entries as you like. We are not afraid of missing body parts or naked boobs, though we may wonder how example a huge, vulgar war scene is related to the comic.
- Themes:
In the below part of the journal, there's a list of 20 songs. Pick up the one that inspires you most (music/lyrics/title... NOTE! It's not necessery to know the lyrics and it's not necessery to obey the title either. Just follow your imagination with the song) and combine the comic with it. For example: If the song makes you think of one particular scene from the comic, draw it in your style. Or, if the song gives you a nice original idea of the main character Kitty falling in love with one of your OCs, draw them together having a romantic dinner or whatever you see them doing in the song. Or if the world of the comic shows up nicely in your head, draw some places from it with your characters walking in there. As long as you make the work clearly related to the comic somehow.
- We judge your creativity, originality, idea, composition, tehnique and style. (Note that the extremely important part is how you relate your work to have something to do with the comic AND the song. We won't be very pleased if you, after listening example the song Pelimies, make just your OC in the middle of the work, holding a flag from which you can read the text: Kenelle liljat kukkivat? Wow. Won't that just be finalist material. Please, use your imagination. But note also that the comic is more important than the song.)
- NO SKETCHES, thank you. We expect you to give your best shot - it may earn you some extra points if we see that you really tried even if you're not the greatest maker.
- Now go check the song list and start to think. ^u^

Literature section:
- There will be no divided prizes so literature will be judged along with the visual artworks. If you were thinking that it will be easy to snatch a prize by entering into this section, better to forget about that since this section is as "cruel" as the other one.
- Write in Finnish if that's possible, otherwise in English.
- You can be as mature as you want with the entries, we won't be afraid of the sex- or murder scenes.
- Theme:
A short fanfic about the comic, max. 3 pages with a writing program (about 7000 characters that is). There's a list of 20 songs in the below part of this journal. Check them out and pick the one that you find most inspiring. Example Ti Amo -song might make you think of really romantic scenes of Kitty and Veeti, and if it is so, write that scene down, example how they meet in a café and end spending a night together or something. Or then write a fan fic example with your OCs, and how they go to Avuertta, whatever as long as there's at least some sense in it. No need to worry about the story will it be really cheesy or a silly harlequin, we will be quite much expecting of those. Suprise us with your use of words~
- A short fan fiction doesn't mean a short poem.
- max. 4 entries/one person (if you have lot to tell and the 3 pages isn't enough, you may use your brains and divide your story into these 4 entries, creating one big work. )
- Make sure the entry is a whole, well done and elaborated structure. We (especially *Agina ) won't be pleased to see dozens of spelling mistakes and clumsy use of the sentences. Even worse if your style changes fully in the middle of the story without a reason. So check your entry before-hand and polish it from the top to the bottom untill it really is ready and finished. We will look at your mistakes as well as we do with the visual art.
- We will judge your originality, creativity, how you have succeeded in combining the comic and the song together, your style, your use of the language, the text itself and what it holds.

THE SONG LIST:
- Remember that it's not needed for you to know the lyrics. They may help of course, but please search those yourself.
- These songs have to do, you CAN'T take your own song or something from your playlist. We are sure that there's at least one song for you that is not too unpleasant.

SOME EXTRA INFO:
- The last time we hold a contest (about three years ago) there was a problem with one guy who thought that the judgement was unfair and then his fan girl came to flame my, *Agina's, page and called us "unthinking idiots without no taste". I answered politely - even though I would have liked to shoot her - and explained why his work didn't win (I'll tell soon the details), and she just told me to fuck off. What's even more hilarious, that they both were 5 years older than us without any sense of manners or brains. You see, the entry that won back then was a full body work (not fully, the legs were out because she had covered those with roses for the sake of the composition), coloured, it had dozens of details and one hell of a good looking guitar. What's more, the contest was about drawing our original characters, and that character she had picked, didn't have but one reference, that was only a headshot. And she designed a whole body and clothes to that character. In the other hand, this entry which lost, had only a headshot in it (fucking ugly headshot it was; you couldn't tell at all was it a male or female and who it exactly was. It could have been a chibi version of Conan O'Brien as well as it could have been a Christmas decoration), no clothes, nothing. Only a red background, the head of the character (with no details, even though THIS character HAD a full body reference!) and that's that. And he had guts to wonder why he didn't win. So this time, even though we did it the last time too, we will explain veeeeeery clearly why we ended up choosing the winners out of the others. And if necessery, we can come and say to the losers why they lost. ...Sad that I can't show those example entries because they are deleted, but let's say that it's the same as if we'd compare these ones:

Which one would win? I have NOOOOOO IDEA.....! @u@

So now, get to work!

P.S. ABOUT THE REFERENCES:
- In here: Kitty, Vietrinim a.k.a Veeti:

- I'll make more if needed + I'll make some coloured reference art later on about other characters that show up in the comic. :3 Just be patient. Or if you're in a hurry, come and ask about the colours. I'll tell. ^____^

:iconagina:
Not stupid at all. :3 No, in Finland there's no such thing. I believe that if some people really celebrate it in here, they have it in their own way. But it's not part of the calendar and no-one really knows it, I've never understood it myself example since we don't have it and I don't encounter it too often - we don't actually have halloween either, it has come just recently because of the influence of america (that's why the halloween contests "draw anything with halloween" seem even more ridiculous, when they support only some particular views of halloween - I mean seriously, my view of halloween is probably quite different from those who celebrate it). We have some of our things as "pikkujoulut" which is like a minichristmas, quite a free party before the real Christmas, usually it ends the works of the old year and after it people go to their vacations, everyone brings up some snacks etc. Often it includes much alcohol, though not always thank god. Finnish drinking culture is quite mad sometimes with people who don't know at all when to stop.

I just wanted to know, since I was talking to a boy here from DA and he wished me happy holidays. I was lol wtf and asked why, then he said it was because thanksgiving was close and so... I said to him that it wasn't such a famous holiday and he said it was celebrated all over the world. :iconnotimpressedplz: I always thought it was restricted to some parts of the globe, but, to prove my point, I need to ask other people as well. Now I know they don't celebrate it in Finland as well and I'm happy~~ *dances* Because I just hate when people are all self-centered and think just because their country has a culture, all the rest does as well. I'm an annoying bitch and it comes do culture.

Here we don't have halloween as well. ._. Even though there's a holiday called "dia de Cosme e Damião", when children receive sweets as well. ...I used to love it so much, but now I'm too old, orz.

I know, right? Here people drink a lot as well x_x especially when is that "Carnaval" time of the year. ...Man, I hate this holiday. The onlu good thing about it is you have this mini-vacation attached~~ *lol wtf*

:iconagina:
Hey it's USA and its awesome people. The center of the world. There's no life elsewhere unless it's american.

I don't think they celebrate it in nordic countries anyway, we have our own little meaningless things. 83 Just as those who live near the Mediterranean have most likely their own parties, they have even siesta (that "resting part" of the day, the time when its hottest), that would be outrageous in Finland, guess why? We never have +40 celcius. 8DDDD So no need for a siesta. Instead of that, we MAY (not likely) have free days if it's -40, but unfortunately (and thank god!!) there's not many of those days, so often we just go to work normally.

I support multi-cultures!

Aw<3 Btw, I like really much that Piñata party thing, that would be awesome to experience since I love candy. 8DDD Damn that Finland doesn't have it. Wonder how many countries have this eastern chocolate egg-thing party? I think I remember that in america there's an easter bunny or something. In Finland we have witches and stuff for that (is that our halloween? X'D ), there's this thing *Virpomasunnuntai*, a day when little children dress themselves as witches, take some baskets and go from door to door to earn some money/chocolate eggs/anything: first they have created a little "magic wands" (they're done from the willows, and there must be those white flowers we call "pajunkissa", otherwise children decorate them with silkpaper-roses and such), then they say in every door the magic words "virvon varvun tuoreeks terveeks tulevaks vuodeks..." which means something like "good luck for the upcoming year", and then they give their wands to that person and in return the person gives them chocolate eggs. I used to make so many wands and how madly overjoyed I was when I got so many eggs! I'm too old for that too... :''3

Aw<3 How is your drinking culture?
In Finland example bars are places in which you stay, drink, chat... You just don't stop by to buy something and leave, you spend time there (I was suprised when I heard that in Italia it's not like, in there you go, buy, and leave, you don't really stay. I didn't know European countries had so many differences even with just bar cultures). + in here it's a local custom that we don't eat at the same time we drink. In special occasions that may happen, but often it's just that you drink some glasses and that's that, no food. Example I've never ate in a bar and none of my friends either + I've never seen anyone to do it in there. Restaurants are of course different. But bars... they're mainly only for drinking and chatting, even though when they offer rolls, sandwiches and such.
